Crocodile puts bite into Singapore stock market
Date: 14-Oct-02
Country: SINGAPORE
The reptile, about 1.7 metres (5.5 feet) long, was spotted basking in a storm drain by a passerby before the business day began on Thursday at nearby banks and brokerages.
Police waded in to bundle the Australian saltwater crocodile to Singapore Zoological Gardens, where it will spend two to three months in quarantine.
"After that, it could join us as a family member," Zoo spokeswoman Amelia Lee said last week.
Zoo officials said the beast could have been an illegal pet or an immigrant from another country, as the "saltie" is known for its prowess in covering vast distances at sea.
