US Requires Permits for Hazardous Cargo on Trucks
Date: 01-Jul-04
Country: USA
The Transportation Department will require the nation's 3,100 hazardous materials carriers to meet a broader range of federal operational and security standards and communicate regularly with their drivers.
Trucking companies must comply with the regulation by January 2005.
Companies with unsatisfactory safety ratings cannot transport materials that require a special permit. These include radioactive cargo, explosives, certain toxic agents, refrigerated liquid methane and natural gas.
