Peugeot Unveils Fuel-Saving Stop & Start System

The Stop & Start system switches a car's engine to stand-by when it stops at a red light or is stuck in traffic and then immediately re-starts it when the driver wants to move off.
The system, which will be available in the Citroen C3 car from November, will cut fuel consumption by around 10 percent for driving in urban areas and could save as much as 15 percent in very heavy traffic.
Harmful carbon dioxide emissions are cut by a similar proportion, PSA said.
"The Stop & Start system meets two of PSA's major strategic priorities: reducing fuel consumption and developing technologies to help motorists," PSA Chairman Jean-Martin Folz told a press conference.
