French Trawler Protest Over EU Fishing Ban Plan

The protesters also oppose plans to further reduce existing EU fishing quotas. Another 50 fishing boats were to organise a go-slow protest in the Dover Straits later in the day.
Unions said the protests could last until Wednesday, when negotiations on 2005 fishing quotas in European waters are due to end in Brussels.
Trawler skipper Bruno Margolle, who is taking part in the action, said Brussels wanted a year's ban on all fishing in the southern portion of the North Sea, to protect cod stocks.
"They want to close off 60 percent of the zone I fish in," said Margolle.
