Reuters FACTBOX - Protests Planned For Scottish G8 Summit

The following is a list of some of the planned protest events around the Group of Eight industrialised nations summit to be held from July 6-8 at Scotland's Gleneagles hotel, famous for its world-class golf courses.

SATURDAY JULY 2 - Make Poverty History campaign march through Edinburgh. Organisers expect more than 100,000 people to take part. Stop The War Coalition also plans a rally in Edinburgh. Live 8 concerts, organised by Irish rocker and campaigner Geldof, to be held in London, Philadelphia, Rome, Berlin and Paris to raise awareness of poverty in Africa.

SUNDAY JULY 3 - Anarchist street carnival expected in Edinburgh. G8 Alternatives, umbrella organisation of anti-globalisation and anti-war groups, to hold its own "summit" in Edinburgh.

MONDAY JULY 4 - G8 protest bicycle caravan from London expected to arrive in Edinburgh. Blockade planned of Faslane nuclear submarine base in western Scotland, about 50 miles (80 km) from Gleneagles. Parade through central Edinburgh.

TUESDAY JULY 5 - Demonstration planned at Dungavel failed asylum seekers detention centre in Scotland. Beacons to be lit on hills to the south of the Gleneagles Hotel. Other beacons to be lit across Britain.

WEDNESDAY JULY 6 - Start of summit. Protest activities expected worldwide, coupled with attempted blockade of summit venue itself. G8 Alternatives to hold rally in Auchterarder village next to Gleneagles. They have also asked for permission to march inside the Gleneagles security zone but police have refused. Hill Walkers protest group expected to stage an event near Gleneagles during the summit, as is Queer8 gay protest group. Pop concert/rally to take place at Edinburgh's Murrayfield rugby stadium.

THURSDAY JULY 7 - Attempts to blockade summit venue expected to be maintained. A protest group called the People's Golfing Association plans a golf tournament at Gleneagles.

FRIDAY JULY 8 - Day of action on the causes of global warming which is one of the main issues at the summit. Summit ends.
