Heavy rains swept away some homes in the village of Ma'abar overnight, the officials added. The floods also cut off the main road linking the capital Sanaa to the country's south.
Yemen, at the southern tip of the Arabian peninsula, is prone to floods in the spring and summer. Last August, flash floods killed 12 people in the poor country. The worst rains to hit Yemen were in 1996, causing damage worth $1.2 billion.
