Storm Kills Five in Bangladesh
Date: 06-Mar-06
Country: BANGLADESH
At least 3,000 people were turned homeless as the storm levelled more than 200 bamboo houses on Saturday night. Trees and electric poles were also toppled.
"The storm hit the villages with winds packing over 150 km (94 miles) per hour and destroyed almost all houses within a few minutes," said a police officer at Sharonkhola, 400 km (250 miles) southwest of Dhaka.
The deaths occurred mostly in house collapses.
Hundreds of people each year die in tropical storms which lash Bangladesh between March and May.
