Country: CHINA

Ten construction workers were killed when a mudslide struck a railway bridge in the region's Turpan prefecture, Xinhua news agency said.

Floods from downpours in Altay, the Ili river valley region and Baicheng city also claimed lives and destroyed housing, Xinhua said.

Heavy summer rains have battered wide swathes of China this year, with meteorological disasters killing at least 349 people and causing economic losses of about US$2.53 billion in June alone, Xinhua said on Monday.

Some 36 people were killed last week in floods and landslides across the country.
