North Italy Regions try to Lift Smog Blanket

The agreement signed on Wednesday by the heads of seven regions or districts calls for increased public transport, a ban on the use of fuel oil and restrictions on polluting vehicles, the Lombardy office said in a statement.
The measures are to be carried out by 2010. Northern Italy is the country's industrial and business centre and is often affected by pollution exceeding European Union or national health limits.
