US Wind Industry to Add 3000 MW in 2007 - Group
More than 3,000 megawatts of wind power turbines will be added in the United States -- enough to power about 825,000 households, the American Wind Power Association said.
At the end of 2006, there were about 11,600 megawatts of US wind power, which was a 20 percent increase from 2005, the AWEA said.
Texas will extend its lead over other states in wind power. It will add more than 1,000 megawatts of wind power this year, the AWEA said.
In rankings issued last month, the AWEA showed Texas with 2,768 megawatts of wind power by the end of 2006 and California second with 2,361 megawatts.
One MW of wind power produces enough electricity on average to serve 250 to 300 homes.
