Planet Ark World Environment News - in partnership with Colonial First State Dhaka's Poor Forced From Homes Again by Floods

Date: 17-Sep-07
Country: BANGLADESH

"Bad luck keeps haunting us," said Parveen Begum, as she
and her child were taken by boat to a camp after her shanty at
Basila, in the city's eastern suburbs, went under water.

It was the second time she has two fled her home in a
month.

Repeated flooding since July has killed 916 people across
Bangladesh.

The latest flooding was caused by torrential rains earlier
this month, and the water is flowing toward the Bay of Bengal.
