"The power plant will have to be shut down so that it will be possible to see what is the reason for the problem," Environment Ministry spokeswoman Darija Dolenc told Reuters.
She said it was not possible to say how long the plant would be shut down.
"There is no influence on environment and we do not expect any," the head of the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Adminsitration, Andrej Stritar, said in a statement.
The Krsko nuclear plant is located in south-western Slovenia, close to the border with Croatia.
