UK BAKERS AFFIRM COMMITMENT TO NON-GM BREAD
Date: 20-May-99
Country: UK
"When GM-soya came into the supply chain, long before GM food became a major media issue, our members made sure that the soya flour used in bread was from an audited, traceable source of conventional soya produced in Canada," Patrick Farnsworth, Chairman of the Federation of Bakers told its annual meeting.
"We made the right decision then and we will continue to provide customers with the choice and quality they demand," he said in remarks issued by the federation in a statement on Wednesday.
The federation represents bakers who produce 80 percent of the UK's bread.
