BANGLADESHIS FORM HUMAN CHAIN TO SAVE TREES

The protesters said the government planned to fell 11,000 trees to make space for a conference centre for a proposed summit of non-aligned countries in Dhaka in 2001.
Municipal authorities said fewer than 500 trees at the Osmany Udyan (park) would be cut and the rest would remain.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she would plant four trees for each felled so the environment did not suffer.
