EU crop experts to examine GM seed standards

The move follows a recent mix-up that resulted in the planting of rapeseed from
Canada containing GM seed not authorised in the EU.
The European Commission has drawn up a discussion document for the EU Seeds
Committee which proposes that seeds cannot contain more than 0.5 percent of GM
material in order to be labelled GM-free, EU officials said on Friday.
The Commission is reviewing legislation covering GM crops and a proposal on seed
is expected later this year.
