LONDON - E.ON, headquartered in Germany, has won approval after four years to build its biggest onshore wind farm in Camster in northern Scotland, which could power up to 35,000 homes, the company said on Wednesday.
E.ON said on its website the 50-MW wind farm, located between Lybster and Watten, would bring construction contract opportunities estimated at 13 million pounds ($18.93 million). It would have 25 turbines.
"This is a major development for us and it's clearly a key development for the UK's renewable targets as it will displace around 72,000 tons of carbon dioxide a year," Simon Eddleston, development manager for its UK onshore wind projects, said.
The site will also contribute considerably to the Scottish government's Renewable Energy Targets of 31 percent by 2011 and 50 percent by 2020, the company said.
