Butchers slaughter a huge black-haired pig, weighing over 800 kg (1,764 lb), in a sacrifice for the Yimin Festival and 'god pig contest' in Taiwan's northern county of Hsinchu on August 24, 2005.
|
About 700 pigs are force-fed to gargantuan proportions every year to take part in such competitions, a traditional religoius practice that has come under fire from animal rights groups who say the breeding and slaughter methods are inhumane.
