More on Safe Toilet Tissue

Why recycled content toilet tissue?
Safe Toilet Tissue is made from 100% recycled clean office waste paper, collected from Australian businesses that care about reducing waste and making better use of our planet's resources. This office waste may otherwise be sent to landfill, where it's of no further use to anyone. Many other toilet tissues are made from virgin wood pulp.

Each day two semitrailer loads of waste paper are recycled to make Safe Toilet Tissue. There is also a component of recycled greeting cards and envelopes collected via the annual 'Cards 4 Planet Ark' greeting card recycling campaign.

It's important to "buy green" and "buy recycled". When we buy products made from recycled materials we reward Australia's recycling businesses and help to make recycling in Australia financially viable.

We also help the environment as making products from recycled materials often uses less water and energy. It also reduces our reliance on landfill.

Toilet tissue does not need to be made from high quality, long fibre virgin wood. Planet Ark believes that timber grown in sustainably managed plantations should be used for building, furniture and other uses that require the strength and fibre quality of wood. That's why we support Safe.

Why "biodegradable"?
Safe Tissue products are designed to be readily biodegradable so that they have minimal impact on the environment. They quickly break down by natural biological processes.

Why "not re-bleached"?
While some of the office waste paper may have been originally bleached before it's use and subsequent collection, no products are bleached in Merino's manufacturing process. The waste paper is pre-sorted into a range of colour grades before arriving at the recycling mill. The "white" variety of Safe Toilet Tissue is simply made from a whiter grade of waste paper.

Why organic dyes?
Plant-derived dyes are used to make the blue and peach varieties of Safe Toilet Tissue. Merino sources dyes that are more ecologically sound and therefore less harmful to the health of the environment. They are also biodegradable.

Why sensibly packaged?
Many of the Safe Toilet Tissue varieties are available in a paper wrap to provide an option with an even lower impact on the environment. 6, 9 and 12 roll packs are also available so that you can minimise the packaging used by buying in bulk.

Why Australian made and owned?
Safe Toilet Tissue is made in Australia from waste paper collected largely within the country (sometimes a small component comes from New Zealand).

When you buy Safe products you can rest assured that your purchase has helped the environment, reduced the amount of waste going to landfill, kept your money in the local economy and provided employment for fellow Australians.

An environmental fundraiser
Merino Pty Ltd is a sponsor of Planet Ark. The sale of Safe Toilet Tissue and other Safe and Earthwise products helps to raise funds for Planet Ark's environmental campaigns, including National Recycling Week and the 'Cards 4 Planet Ark' greeting card recycling program.
