Week 37: I resolve to investigate avenues for disposal of items not collected or recyclable through my council clean-up, to divert as much as possible from landfill.
Date: 15-Sep-09
Council clean-ups are a great way to get rid of items that I can’t dispose of through my regular waste collection, however councils aren’t always able to take my waste to facilities that sort, reuse and recycle items once they have left my front lawn.
I can call my council or check my council’s website, to find out what happens to my council clean up waste. If they are taken to landfill, I should reconsider what I put out for collection my old mattresses, electronic waste (‘e-waste’), cardboard, couches and plastics can often get a second lease on life by being recycled or reused through other avenues.
I can visit www.RecyclingNearYou.com.au or call the Recycling Near You Hotline on 1300 733 712 to find out where I can take these items, and will be conscientious about my council pick-ups.
Commitment Statement
I will investigate avenues for disposal of items not collected or recyclable through my council clean-up, to divert as much as possible from landfill.
