Planet Ark is the international environment group that was founded in 1991by Wimbledon Champion, Pat Cash, and the global charity campaigner, Jon Dee.
Planet Ark is best known for its 'World Environment News' service, which is sponsored by the Reuters News Agency. This is now the biggest online environmental news service in the world.
Headquartered in Australia, the Planet Ark Foundation runs campaigns that show people how to reduce their daily impact on the environment - at home, at work and in the community.
These campaigns have been fronted by a range of well-known celebrities including Kylie Minogue, Pierce Brosnan, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Newton-John, Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman and many others.
Planet Ark does not have a membership scheme. We seek lifestyle change, not loose change!
Much of Planet Ark's work is carried out at the local community level via partnerships with councils, community groups and retail outlets. In fact, it's the sponsorship from these partnerships that helps to fund Planet Ark - that way we don't need to seek money from the public.
Our campaigns in Australia have achieved major benefits for the environment. Planet Ark's recent 'National Tree Day' for example attracted four times more volunteers than the Sydney Olympics and planted over 2.2 million trees at over 3,300 sites. All in one weekend!
All of Planet Ark's costs for that campaign were sponsored by long-term Tree Day sponsor Toyota and the AMP Foundation.
Over a fifth of Australia's schools participated in the event. At the local level, hundreds of councils, tree planting groups, Lions Clubs, Starbucks outlets, Rotary Groups and other community groups also backed the initiative.
Over the years, millions of Australians have supported our many campaigns which are run in nearly every community in Australia. Click here to check-out our current Australian campaigns.
