We’re shining a spotlight on National Recycling Week (10-16 November 2025) events that are inspiring meaningful change and showing how small actions can have a big impact for our planet.
From schools and local councils to businesses and local groups, communities everywhere are finding new ways to reduce waste, repurpose materials and make recycling part of everyday life.
National Recycling Week tour with Randwick Recycling Centre, NSW
Discover what happens to your recyclables on a guided tour of the Randwick Recycling Centre. Learn how to recycle correctly, find out which items can be diverted from landfill and get answers to common recycling questions.
The 50-minute tour includes a free BBQ and coffee cart (bring a reusable cup) and is a great way for the community to see recycling in action!

Recycling & gardening with worms workshop by City of Armadale, VIC
Last Friday (7 Nov), the City of Armadale hosted a hands-on workshop with Kevin and Debbie from The Worm Shed, teaching residents how to set up and care for worm farms and use nutrient-rich worm castings to boost gardens.
Attendees learned practical tips for healthy worm farming and sustainable gardening, with the chance to take home subsidised worm farms to continue their composting journey.

Recycling Truck Art Competition by Kingborough Council, TAS
Winners of the competition were announced on National Recycling Week, turning student creativity into a visible messaging for the community and raising awareness about positive recycling habits.
Winning designs by Maybelle and Charlie now feature on a council recycling truck, encouraging the community to place recyclables loose in bins, not tied up in plastic bags.
Follow Your FOGO tour by Sustainable Whitehorse, VIC
Participants were able to see first-hand what happens to food and garden organic waste at Bio Gro’s organics recovery facility.
This educational tour offered a behind-the-scenes look at how household FOGO is transformed, helping the community understand the impact of recycling and composting organic waste and learning how FOGO practices can make a real difference in reducing landfill.

Waste to Art Competition by Shire of Harvey, WA
Young artists across the Shire of Harvey got creative this National Recycling Week, turning household recyclables into stunning marine-themed artworks. From mixed media collages to 3D sculptures of reef creatures and birds, the competition inspires the next generation to care for our oceans and reduce waste.
Free textile recycling for Wagga Wagga residents
During National Recycling Week (10–16 November 2025), residents of the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area are invited to recycle unwanted textiles for free at the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre.
This initiative, led by the Canberra Region Joint Organisation, helps residents recycle textiles that cannot be resold, helping reduce landfill waste and associated costs.

Clothes swap and textile mending by Randwick Sustainability Hub, NSW
Randwick Council invites the community to swap high-quality pre-loved clothing, shoes, and accessories. Enjoy a short sustainable fashion talk by Beatriz Ferreira (Plastic Free Coogee) and connect with others while keeping items out of landfill.
The event is part of the Saturday Circle, a monthly (every second Saturday) repair, share, regen, reuse and resilience building get-together at the Randwick Sustainability Hub. Each month focuses on different techniques such as sewing, embroidery, and repair skills.
